Prize Giving 2012

Nervously walking up to the stage to collect my prize I felt hot. Last Thursday our school had our annual Prize Giving. I was lucky enough to get a certificate, for citizenship and a prefect badge that's me in the picture with the other prefects the new and the old. I was quite surprised when Mr Burt called my name out for prefect. I think my mum was also surprised to. I cant wait till next year. Prize Giving was awesome!

12.12.12

12.12.12 is today's date it's one of a kind and will never happen again. Some people think its suspicious do you? I don't. I reckon some people might just think that it's the end of the world or something but that's just a load of rubbish. I have some friends who are 12 who think its pretty cool and to be honest I don't really care.

My Future Career...

Hopefully my future career will end up with me making movies of my own and taking photos of cool scenery. I chose that as my future career because I love taking photos and making movies at school. I guess its just a hobby of mine but I really enjoy it, and it would be an awesome job.

Being a videographer is a dream of mine. I started to think about making movies  not so long ago because I have and had alot of opportunities in school  to help teachers film movies for their class. And last term Mr Munic a guy who came to our school to teach kids tips of using the camera.

To get to this dream of mine I have to work harder and put my hand up for more opportunities around school. The person I look up to for making movies is Peter Jackson. I know I won’t make that great a movie but I guess I can always try and put some of my stories that I made up.

Athletics At Lloyd Elsmore park

Arriving at school at 7:30 playing with my friends inside the hall ready to go on the bus .Going on the bus with some of my friends heading off to athletics we all sat there talking to each other with anticipation. Today was annual school athletics for the year 7 and 8's. We all headed off to Lloyd Elsmore Park.

We arrived inside the park and followed Mr Barks to where we had to sit down and relax until the events started. First was the 1500 meters sadly no one qualified for that so then we missed out on that race. My friend Huelo-ata had high jump and I had shot put I would have watched but I didn't notice that she had already went.

A while later it was my turn to do my activity, I had shot put. I quickly ran with Zion down to the shot put pit we both sat down next to other girls.Mr Manson was running shot put for the girls he told us all the rules and that we had three shots each.

Zion and I were waiting for our names to be called then suddenly Zion's name was called. Me and the other girls from different schools cheered her on. After Zion it was me, I stood up ready to throw. I did my styles for running up and then pushed it away from my neck.

With my amazement with each throw I had it went pretty far. My last throw was the best yet putting me in first place. I was so proud of myself  but I didn't show it.When I went back to Mrs Vafusuanga I told her that I came first and she was so happy. The length of  my biggest throw was 8.13. After everyone had their sports done we went home in a bus felling awesome.

Athletics 2012

Today was Athletics Day and the field was scattered with sports equipment. When I arrived to school everyone was wearing their team colours. My team is Matatua a.k.a green. Javelin was our first activity, I was soon to have my turn. I was really excited but nervous at the same time. “Brooklyn, you're up” Mr Barks said to me. As I nervously walked up to take my turn, I grabbed the javelin stick and through it as far as I could. Unfortunately it didn’t stick to the ground but it was a very good throw.

I was quite disappointed in myself but I knew what I did wrong, every time we let go of the Javelin we were supposed to flick our hand so it would land diagonally. We all got reminded to flick our hands because that's the main reason hardly anyone got placing. Luckily my friend Huelo- ata came 2nd.

Our next activity was  softball throw so that meant it was pretty simple to do. When I through mine I became second place one ahead of my friend Huelo-ata. All the kids that got a place had to go to Mrs Clark and tell her the order of the placings.

Next was discus I was kind of freaking out because our class didn’t practise it. But when it was my turn I did pretty well coming 3rd but then getting put down to 4th. I think to do better I have to practise more. Huelo-ata did pretty well but sadly she didn't come in any place.

After discus it was morning tea we didn't do much then but as we started to do our activities it all started to get interesting. Sooner or later the day had to end but the last activity was relays. Parents vs kids and Teachers vs kids. They were all great but when the clock stroke three we all went home in a good mood.

The Tinker Toy Construction Set

This term the extension group had to chose a number between 1 and 20 and then Mrs Tele'a gave us a toy to research about the number I chose was 15 and the toy that I got was The Tinkertoy Construction Set.

The Tinkertoy Construction Set is a toy for children 5 and older. It was created in 1914. Charles Pajeau is the creator of the tinkertoy. It has at least 66 parts in it. Charles Pajeau had the inspiration to make the Tinker Toy because he saw children playing with pencils sticks and empty spools of thread and he also wanted to encourage children to use their imagination.

Caleb Chung Toy maker

Caleb Chung is an amazing toy inventor. He made the foam missile launcher the electronic Barbie and he also invented Dinobotic. The extension group had the opportunity to research about him. He has an amazing history starting off as a street mime and working his way up to be a toy inventor. Caleb Chung now owns a company called Giving Toys.

Maniakalani Film Festival 2012

Entering hoyts Sylvia park was really cool because me and my friends couldn’t wait to watch the movies that a cluster of schools including ours had made. As the lights started to dim all you could hear was people going “shhh!” to each other.

There were heaps of movies made by different schools but the ones that stood out for me are the ones I will be talking about. First of all my favourite movies would be One Direction east side styles by Tamaki College and The Test by room 18 at  P.t England school.

One Direction by Tamaki College was hilarious starting off with some of the boys that come to our school dressed up pretending to be the One Direction group. The most funny thing in this movie is when at the end it has the the kids dancing but 50+ years.

On The Test by room 18 their movie shows their class in a test and all you hear is the clock ticking then they started talking, with their eyes and facial expressions. For a movie that has no one speaking in it it was really really funny. You can find all these movies on the maniakalani web site. After I lot more movies we had to go back to school.

When we arrived at school we quickly went inside our classrooms and headed of. The manaiakalani film festival was awesome and I can't wait to go go next year. You can find all these movies on the link below.

My Favourite Toy

My favourite toy was a singing puppy toy because it was the first soft toy that my grandparents had ever given to me. It gave me three dogs to play with. This is because I also played with my grandparents two dogs named Muffy and Pari.

My favourite toy looks like a puppy with blue floppy ears and different colours on his paws. Also when you press on one of the paws the puppy sings or plays games with you. It’s actually quite amusing when you're only three or four.

My favourite toy makes me feel happy because it reminds me of when I was younger and all the things I did with it. The best memories I have of my favourite toy are going to get it from my grandparents room and playing with it loudly. My nana would growl me because she was trying to sleep.

Now it is probably stuffed into a bag never to be seen again. It brings me happiness thinking of it because all the things that were there aren't any more like my nana and papa’s dogs.

Arch Way To Another Dimension

“Its time to leave were not safe here you must go through the arch to another dimension you're our only hope”."Okay daddy but promise you will find me"."I Promise now go before its too late". When there was war there was death so as the child of chief Abner ran along with her baby to one of the the arches that magically transport them to this dimension. The women wasn't alone though. Her enemies followed her here and she was killed but before that she sent her baby to a foster home knowing that she was the only hope.

20 years past and now there are no more wars and the new apple Ipads are out. But as Eden grew older she had no idea who she was or what things she had to do. She was now with her friend Sam walking along with their tour guide. Walls of dark green bushes travel by as our tour group wonder along the path way. "And as you may know that years ago the greeks built statues of people to symbolise their love, they also built arch ways to transport themselves into different dimensions" said our tour guide Matt. Of course they were restricted for know one knew what would happen.

My friend Sam and I were walking down the path to find ourselves standing in front of a restricted area sign. Eden felt something in her telling her to go in so out of nowhere she grabbed Sam and pulled her into a different path."Where are we going the group is heading the other way" Said Sam." I know I just needed to come here, to see what they're hiding"."Who's hiding Eden?"... "I see it" said Eden in an excited way."See wut? Im confused" "The arch". They came to a stop just in front of the arch What do you suppose we do know? asked Sam.

"Go through and see what happens I guess" Said Eden."No way i'm going back". "Okay then but i'm going through" said Eden. She knew she had to like someone was telling her to. Suddenly as she took one step through the arch she could see war happening. Heading back to the tour group she realized Eden wasn't there.

Narrative Practise

Once upon a time there was once three work colleagues named Stuart, Sue and Zoe. They were volunteers for the ANZ business association. They were part of team who were to help to clean up the zoo. Their job was to clean the crocodile enclosures. They felt so excited.  When they arrived at the zoo they went to check in and were escorted by one of the zoo employees, who was trained to feed the crocodiles.

When they arrived at the enclosure, Sam the zookeeper had forgotten to get the food for Crocky. So the the three of them all went to the cafe to wait until Sam was ready for them. But they failed to remember to close the door.  Crocky, the eight foot crocodile, came crawling out eating everything that was in his path.

“AAAArrrrgggghhhh” says Sue as she saw Crocky came up behind her. The first thing she thought was how did the crocodile get out of the enclosure. And if they would still get paid.

While she was thinking she quickly rang animal control. Not knowing that Crocky was coming up behind her luckily she got to speak to animal control but she failed to stay alive.

After that the animal control came but there were only a small amount of survivors and some were badly injured. So then the animal control and split up to try and find Crocky it took awhile but they finally found where he was.

The problem is solved when they took Crocky to his home country so he could live happily ever after in his own way and everyone who survived lived happy ever after but still having a fear of crocodiles.

Going To Willow Park

Excitedly hoping into the car with all my bags and sister my mum took us down to school on Monday the first day of the school holidays. Sounds crazy right , going to school the day of our holidays but we had a reason actually lots of students had reasons. We were going to Willow park for our school riverside camp.

When we arrived at school my sister and I saw loads of kids inside the breeze. So I went to my friends Huelo-ata, Ashleigh and Vivienne and sat down ready to listen to Mr Burt. Sooner or later all of us were on the bus waving to our parents slowly dissapearing into the distance.

The way to Willow Park was so fun, talking to my friends, and the speed bump wren't so bad either when we went over them we bounced up off of our seats and came back down again.

"Woooh Go Pt England"

As the sorching sun came tumbling down. We sat down on the grass in a line of spectators. The reason for this is because we had to support the year 7 and 8 girls rugby team, their oppents are Koru from the south side. Soon as the horn went of the girls went of tring to get to the goal. Smashing through their oppnents hoping to cover as much field to get closer and closer. Koru are really good so we had to work really hart to get that try and then out of know where with her tremedous run Besi scored the first try. Great tackles went around the field. as both teams tried to get the try. Fierce tackling came from all the girls even some came from Koru butTina a big hits. It was an intense game as I sat and talk to my friends about the game and some of the tackles and trys. Solid defence came from Koru but accelerated speed came from Pt England. I guess both teams had their advantages and there disadvantage. Amazing achivement was showen on feild. We could all tell by their faces that hat it was a really hard game. At first it was a draw 3 each but then it came well up to 15-16 Koru was in the lead. I thought that we could finish it off with a amazing try but soon or later Koru with their solid defence couldn't help us win. Even on the side line me and my friends could feel the intesity. As the game came to the end it was a fight to the finish. But by one point Koru just one. It was a cool game but next time I am determined for them to win.

What if..........I Could Go back in time

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the “present.” that is  the words of Master Oogway on the movie Kung Fu Panda. Today room 21 have another writing task. It is about if I could go back in time.

If I had a choice to go back in time to do anything the first thing I would do go back to when my mum and dad were my age. The only reason for this is because my mum always says “when I was your age I would have to clean the whole house”. And thats why I have to.

With my dad I would like to see what he did younger with my nana and what schools he went to and if he got bullied. It would be so cool to see them young but would be even better if we got to play with them and maybe even how they met would be cool.

That is all I would do some people would probably go back to rewrite their mistakes but sometimes they can be good because you always learn from them.

What If........ I Had Superpowers

What if I had super powers? My superpower would be that I could bend all of the four elements like on The Legend Of Korra, except my name would be The Black Enigma I chose this is my superpower because well I could do anything except fly. And I also like the show The Legend Of Korra.

The reason for my name is because Enigma means a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. With my powers I would do the usual and go to school but
it would be much easier and faster. Also I would fly around on my horse to different places.

But even with super powers I could still go around the world. And do whatever I want. But  life is a box of chocolates and you never know what you are going to get.

What If........ I Was A Billionaire

If I was a billionaire? I would be as happy as a clam . I would have everything I would ever want. Well first I would give some money to my nana and papa and my mum and dad. But the rest I would use to travel around the world and pay off the bills in my house.

I would also put away some money in my bank account to save up for college and university. I would try and change the world bit by bit in my own little. If you're asking what I would change I would use my money to donate money on children's education.

The thing is if you want all the things you dream of you have to work hard to get there. You don’t have to be rich for you to get the things you always wanted all you really need is support and good education. That is why I would save money for a really good university and collage.

Senior Mini Olympics

Oh cool, What do we do? I said to my friend Shoal. “I don’t know probably heaps of activities” she replied. Yep, the day has come for the seniors to have their Mini Olympics. Last week the Juniors had their Mini Olympics. Today we had a dull and grey sky. When we arrived in the hall Mr Burt was there to greet us and tell us what to do. The teams are Matatua, Takitimu, Te Arawa, Tainui. Also after each activity we got scored

Miss lagitupu told us which line to go in and sit down. Jasmine was in my team so I sat next to her. Mr Burt said the prayer then told us what we were going to do today. We had four rotations and in that time four games. The first game was in the library with Mrs Flavelle.

We sat down in the library in front of us is two tables covered with felt tips, icing sugar and paper. When we got asked to sit down on the table we had 15 minutes to split into two groups. One who was going to decorate cookies and one who is going to draw on shells. The Theme was the Olympics. When we got to decorate the cookies we had to blindfold the person and tell them what to do.

After that we got scored a five and went off to our next activity it was Jump Jam with Miss Muliaumasealii. I reckon it was lucky timing when we arrived because it started pouring down with rain. As we went in to sit down Miss M was getting the projector ready so we could start. We stood up getting ready staring at the Jump Jam video. A huge thud went of when we started because the boys in the back where tripping over and knocking down chairs.

After that funny experience our team went on to the ICT room to relax and watch movies. This was the third activity and the next was the last. The movies we watch was from when we were younger and even when the year 8’s were year six’s. We only watched about four movies then off we went to the hall to see Mr Burts activity he was doing relays.

The relays were super fun especially when we had to hula hoop down to the finish line and run back up so the next person can take their turn. This went on except we had different types of relays. It was hilarious. But it soon had to end. I can't wait to hopefully do this again some day.

Making Good Choices

Early on this term room 21 have took classes in the life carvan. The topic this time is to make good choices, but to also learn about the systems in our body. We all have five systems in our body can you name them?

Why should you make good choices? Well if you don’t you would have to pay the consequence. The consequences for smoking are lung disease, heart attacks and sometimes if it gets out of hand death. In my opinion smoking is a bad habit and a waste of money. Also when you are a kid like me and you do something wrong, at home or at school you either became on detention or get in trouble.

Your body is unique but you can just destroy it just like that with alcohol, instead of taking drugs and smoking think of the positive ways to keep yourself healthy. If you're on medication and you need to take all these drugs then do but, if you don’t and you don’t have a prescription then stop it!

All these things that I have written in my post is all the things that you should not get in the habit off or try and give up on. Because if you don't then you would get some serious consequences.

Animators Apprentice

Last week Friday the extension group were introduced to Ali, Maka and Nils. They are the animators for Bro Town, a comedy cartoon film. They came to our school to teach us about animating in the 1900 and so on. One of the activities that we learnt about was a Zoetrobe.

But before we even got our hands on anything we had to practise how to tween ( draw in the middle of two lines). At first it was easy but as we went the lines seemed to be getting more out control. It took me a while to get used to it.

After a couple more exercises we all got handed two strips of paper and a template of a moving  jellyfish. On the template of the moving jellyfish there were two lines a red and blue we had to find the middle and draw a line in between.

At the end of the lesson we had been given a Zoetrobe for ourselves and had to to draw our own animation like the jelly fish.

The Annual School Cross Country

“NOOOO!!!!!” The day had come to go to the annual school Cross Country. First off we started on the Senior courts waiting for the Juniors to run their run. One by one they went off and then it was the year 7’s turn. I was trying to find my way out of this but as soon as Mr Burt slammed his two blocks of wood together we were off.

We went around half of the field and out the gate. As soon as we ran out all I could hear was sloshing mud soaking my shoes. I just couldn't wait to get out of the grassy mud puddle, but all I could see was a never ending mud snake ending at the shell-covered path.

Later on in the 3km run I started to think it is Friday so why not enjoy the mud puddles. So then I made a mud slide but it failed. I just fell to the ground hurting my bottom. The race was getting harder and I started to feel exhausted. I finally came to the the bush walk. It was really cool, weather wise.

As I became to the end of the race I could hear Mr Burts voice commenting on the kids coming through the finish line. I was at the stage of running around the field ready to cross the finish line. It was really muddy, so I jump in the puddles enjoying myself.

“Yes”, I am finally at the finish line. I was so muddy that I gave Mrs Tele’a a big hug hoping I would get some mud on her Takitimu clothes (I'm in team Matatua). I crossed the finishing line running to the tap where there was a long line of people waiting for the water to soak their clothes. Even if I didn’t come any place I feel like I could do this all over again.

Usain Bolt

In many people's eyes, Usain Bolt is an icon or a legend. Usain Bolt has recently won the 100m and 200m race in the London Olympics. I think after his victory he is one of the greatests legends but I know that someone out there don't think so like Jacques Rogge the IOC president.

In my opinion I think Usain Bolt should be crowned legend because he is already an icon with a trademark pose so why can't he have the title. I disagree with what Rogge said and I think he should just mind his own business.

Usain Bolt was born in Jamaica on August the 21st. He was a standout student for playing cricket and a sprinter earlier on in his life. Bolts natural speed was noticed by his teachers and coaches at school. One of Usain Bolt's all time heros was Jamaican track Herb Mckenley.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin's Olympic Message

Baron Pierre de Coubertin the founder of the Olympics said that  “The most important thing about the Olympic Games is not to win, but to take part...just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle”.

To me the Olympic message means that it's not about winning but about taking part. It’s about being given the chance to represent your country but also enjoying it while it lasts.

To me the second part of the Olympic message means if you want to be successful you have to struggle to get there. Like if you want to get a medal from the London Olympics you have to sacrifice your time and your family. To be a successful athlete you have to eat the right foods and practice, practice, practice! They have to be determined to stick to their goal.

To me winning isn’t everything it's taking part and having fun, but also representing your country and making them proud. Determination, Dedication and Desire are three very strong and meaningful words. To win something you have to be determined to win, you have to dedicate something to someone and you to have desire to win a gold medal.

I hope that the athletes representing New Zealand will be happy with themselves even if they don’t reach their goal.

Go for Gold

The proud athlete stood victoriously on the  podium, thrilled with her amazing win.
As she holds her great gold medal in one hand and a bouquet in the other, she smiles gleefully into the camera.
Looking very pleased with herself, she smiles gleefully into the camera.
The audience applauded the asian athlete as she stood on the podium with a gold medal around her neck.
Feeling like a champion she looks at the crowd with her victory in mind.

Ecstatic Football Players

Proud football players are overjoyed with excitement because they won their match.
The crowd goes wild when the winning shot goes through the goal.
Screaming and shouting the girls are ecstatic with their winning.
Running and screaming across the field they are relieved that they can go home and celebrate.
The tense crowd were on the edge of their seats when one of the girls kicked the goal into the goal.

Fighting To The Finish

Today we had the same task as yesterday but we got a different picture.

As you can see here there are two determined wrestlers who will fight to the finish.
The wrestler in the red is arm locking, while the one in the blue is struggling to get out of his position.
The man in the red knew that the the wrestler in the blue was not giving up so he put his strength to 100%.
Determined to pin his opponent to the ground.

The wrestler in the red has too much strength for the one in the blue so he is forced to tap out.

Bulls Eye

As the archer pulls his arrow back ready to release it into the air, his eyes are determined to make the point of his arrow land in the center of the target. He stands there waiting for the right moment to release the arrow. The archer is only focused on the target wishing that it will land into the centre. As the noise from the audience dies down the archer is positioning himself and the bow so his aim is accurate. If the archer gets his positioning right and he gets the arrow in the target he would be a champion.

London 2012 Olympics

London is hosting their third Olympics. Pretty amazing isn't it.  In this majestic city there is going to be marvellous venues holding the events for the Olympics. There will be a range of venues, some historic but some new.

The last time London held the Olympics was in 1948. In the 1948 London Olympic games, Fanny Blankers-Koen a Dutch mother of two is best known for winning four gold medals. Sadly three Olympic games were cancelled in the past because of World War l & ll.

This years Olympics is going to have some returning champions who won medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In Beijing the USA won the most medals. The reason for these champions returning is because they want to defend their titles. Michael Phelps is one of them. He won 16 medals in a single games for swimming. Usain Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter and is also the fastest man in the world.

I really can’t wait until the olympics start. And when it does all of my support is going out to all of the New Zealand athletes

Brown Brother By Joshua Losefa

Joshua Losefa is a prefect who goes to Auckland's Mt Roskill school and the thing about him is that he made an amazing speech about being brown and explaining the stereotypes in people. It was an amazing speech and I hope he presents more.

Static Images

Today room 21 had to choose a static image and write a paragraph about it. A static image is a photo or painting which is still and has no motion. A static image could also be a poster or drawing. I chose to do a cluster of Frangipanis. In this picture, in my opinion was taken from a top angle. Also I think it brings a happy relaxing feeling to it. The effect that I like is the patterns on the flowers. It looks like there is just a splatter of yellow paint on it.

Taonga Time

Every Friday everybody in the intermediate block switch classes to do different projects with different teachers. I am with Mrs Tele’a. The project we have do is time laps. “Do you know what time lapse is Shoal?” I asked her “ Yep well kind of” she replied.

Shoal wasn’t here last week so I told her what we had to do. We had to time lapse one of Robyn Kahukiwa pictures. I chose to time lapse Hine. The picture is of a maori woman's face, the most difficult thing for me to draw was her moko. Shoal chose to do Upoko Whero.

Time lapse is kind of like tracing except you draw line by line making different cards. It takes a while to do the outline but when we finish we start on the shading and colouring.

When I started the shading and colouring it's harder than it seems, you have to try and get the right colour and shading throughout the whole picture. Mrs Tele’a told us to use the spray can because it helps you with the detail, and it did!

An hour later we have to leave. I really like toanga time because its fun and I get to learn different things each week. I can’t wait till next Friday for the next session.

Technology At Tamaki College

Every Tuesday morning, the year 7's walk down to Tamaki Collage for tech. When we arrive we head off to the class we are assinged to go.
For the year 7's there are 3 different activities. They're Electronics, Hard Materials (wood work) and last but not least Food. For the last couple of weeks I have been going to food but recently we have switched to another category. Food went to Electronics. Electronics went to Hard materials and Hard materials went to Food.

When we arrived at EP1 which is the electronics class we put down all the chairs and sit down. The first thing that I noticed was that it smelt like a YMCA. After that Mr Maholtra told us to introduce ourselves by saying what our first names our, if we have any brothers and sisters in TC (tamaki college)we also had to say what we would like to learn at electronics. I said “that over the years I would like to learn to make a laptop”.

When the whole class had finished introduced themselves we all had to write down 10 rules and sign. We also had a 5 minute break. When that was over Mr Maholtra showed us some games that he made and all the parts to it.

I learnt alot that day and even though we mostly sat down it was really fun and we also got to see all of Mr Malhotra's creations. I can't wait till next Tuesday when we use soldering irons.

Brooklyn Compare and Contrast Picasso's 'The Weeping Woman' and and Daniella Hulmes 'A lazy day in paradise'.

This is the second time room 21 have been required to compare and contrast two different paintings from two different famous artists. One of the artists is Pablo Picasso and the painting that we’re observing is ‘The Weeping Woman’. The other famous artist is Daniella Hulme. The painting we’re using is ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’.

In the ‘The Weeping Woman’ I can see that Picasso used a large amount of lines, shapes, patterns and angles. The colour he mostly used was a faded yellow throughout his painting. He also used green and orange. Picasso’s style of painting is Cubism.

When I look at ‘A lazy day in paradise’ I notice that Daniella Hulme has used vibrant, bright, bold colours. Since she is married to a samoan man her inspiration for all the paintings she does is involved with Pasifika. Also Daniella’s style of painting is Modern Art.

They (Picasso and Hulme) don’t have a lot in common because the ‘The Weeping Woman’ has faded colours and has a sad feeling to it. But in ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ it has bright bold colours.

Although Daniella Hulme is not as famous as Picasso she is a very very good artist. If I had to choose one that I really liked, I would pick ‘A lazy day in paradise’. I chose ‘A lazy day in paradise’ because it has a fun and also relaxed feeling to it

Comparing and Contrasting

Room 21 were required to look at the differences and similarities between two paintings. Those paintings are ‘Sunflowers’ by Van Gogh and ‘La Musique’ by Henri Matisse. Van Gogh uses Expressionism as his style of painting, while on the other hand Henri Matisse, a french artist, uses Fauvism which means ‘wild beast’.

When I look at Vincent Van Gogh’s painting of the sunflowers I notice that he mostly uses brown and yellow for his drooping sunflowers. You can also see that he has used small strokes making a special effect.

Henri Matisse’s La Musique has bright bold colours that you will enjoy. You can see that Henri Matisse used different shapes and sizes. He also used different brush strokes.

I think that these two painting don’t have much in common, Because the sunflowers are dull and droopy. I also feel like when Vincent Van Gogh was painting his picture he was actually painting what he felt. But on the La Musique painting it’s a whole different picture. La Musique has bright playful colours and everything is happy and filled with nature.

These famous artist are really cool and even if some of their paintings don’t have much in common we should still respect what they have done and what they are interested in.

Part 2 Of Entering A New Country

About two movies later the pilot said “ Ladies and gentlemen we are about to land on behalf of the air new zealand crew we hope you have enjoyed your flight”. When we got out of the plane we were thinking so since we're in Hong Kong how do we get out of here!!

While walking around tring to find an exit sign or something we saw the outside and cars that looked like taxis, so we walked out and a man said so we are we heading to? My Mum said “ Prince Hotel in the city”. The man showed us to the taxi and told the driver where we were going. In the taxi was a T.V I tried playing with it and then it burst out with a song in Cantonese.

After that interesting drive to the city we made it to the hotel. I was sure we were going to crash because the drive kept on yawning and doing that noise were you put one finger in your ear and you wiggle it and you're also tring to cough something up,  man I hate that. I was so glad when we arrived. The hotel was so beautiful and my mum upgraded our room and added breakfast to it.

We got our key to our room and me and my sister ran to the elevator pressed the level that our room was on. As soon as we got on the 15th floor me and my sister ran to find the room. Mum opened the door and it was so........ beautiful even if it was just a little small. Straight away we went to sleep. But sooner or later we had to wake up, and when we did it was morning.

My Mihi

Room 21 had a task. The task was to make a Mihi of them selves. Here is mine. I hope you enjoy it.

Part 1 Entering A New Country

One day in the school holidays my mother surprised me and my sister. She said “we will be going to Hong Kong”. We were in Rarotonga at that time but we were heading back to New Zealand.

We spent one night in Auckland and the next day we were out like flies. Rushing and speeding out of here trying to go to the airport. When we arrived we all said bye to our papa who dropped us off. In the airport we had to go fast because we were running late.

Luckily we made it in time for everyone to board. My mum said that “It would be a long flight and I would like you to have a little sleep” I said “okay”. I watched a lot of movies, maybe even six. But I still needed to go to sleep so I did.

During my very uncomfortable sleep I was awakened by the sound of the co pilot saying “hello ladies and gentlemen, this is your co pilot speaking, dinner will be served soon”. After that not so very yummy meal, the co pilot finally said we will be landing soon.

Camp Concert

It was an intense night when some of teachers were getting ready in the hall for the camp concert. All the kids were lining up anxiously in the hall. They waited for Mr Barks the MC to call out the first of the groups names to go and perform their team dance.

A couple of teams passed and there was only approximately 3 more to go. It all went quiet when Mr barks picked up the microphone and started to tell us who was up next. It was the........ “Respectables!”  I rushed up the stairs like I was nervous, and don’t get me wrong I was, but I felt fine when the music started and my friends and I laughed.

Time flew by fast and soon it was time to announce the winners. 6th place was the Respect Squad. In fifth place was the incredible Respectablez (my team). After that it was time to go to bed. I was really tired and yawning like crazy.

I had fun watching the other teams with their dances, some were funny and some were okay. But they were all great.
